The Blessings of the Holy Month of Muharram


As all Muslims know that the Islamic Calendar consist of 12 months and all months have different significance and importance. Every Muslim is familiar with sacred months and knows the way they are popular or what story is behind these months. Now, see the list of the Holy Months given below,

Muharram 
Safar 
Rabi ul Awwal
Rabi ul Sani
Jamadi ul Awwal
Jamadi ul Sani
Rajab
Shaban
Ramzan
Shiwal
Zi Qad
Zill Hajj 

The first and holy month of the Islamic Calendar is Muharram and its significance mentioned in the various Hadiths and Quranic Verses. Now, let us see the importance of Muharram, which is given below,

Blessedness in the Light of Quran

The month of Muharram is blessed month and Allah mentioned in the Quran as well and Says that,
“The number of months in the vision of Allah is 12, so intended by Him the day He shaped the skies and the earth, of the four, are blessed, that is the straight usage. So, erroneous not yourselves within and fight the pagans all composed as they fight you all together. But know that Allah is with those who confine themselves.” (Quran 9:36)

Fasting in the Days of Muharram 

To get more rewarded, keep fasting in the special days of Muharram and therefore, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that,

“The finest of fasting after Ramzan is fasting Allah’s month of Muharram.” (Muslim)

The Important Day of Ashura 

This day is celebrated on the 10th of Muharram. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) already known about this day and Hazrat Ibn Abbas said that about the Prophet (PBUH)’s fasting on the Day of Ashura,

“I never saw the Holy Prophet (PBUH) of Allah so intense to fast any day and give it importance at any other time than the Day of Ashura and the month of Ramzan.” (Bukhari)

The above-mentioned Hadith shows that the Messenger of Allah always kept fasting on the Day of Ashura which is second most blessed fasting after the month of Ramzan. In another Hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said that,  

“This fast is a reward for the (slight) evils of the previous year.” (Muslim)

Historical significance of Ashura (10th Muharram)


The start of Muslims new Hijri calendar with the holy month of Muharram. It is a 1st holy month in Hijri calendar that begins with the sighting of the new moon. Muharram is well thought-out to be illegal to fight because it is one of the 4th sacred months. After the Ramadan, it is a most important holy month in the Hijri calendar.

Prophet (PBUH) grandson, Hazrat Imam Husain was cruelly annihilated lengthwise with his family and supporters on the 10th day of Muharram, this is called Ashura. Significant Events regarding Ashura 

There are many other incidents which occurred on the Day of Ashura. Therefore, this day has a special place in the history of Islam. Some important events have occurred including the incident of
Hazrat Imam Husain.

• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Adam (AS) and Hazrat Hawa were created.
• On the Day of Ashura, Tauba of Hazrat Adam (AS) was accepted.
• On the Day of Ashura, Ark of Hazrat Noah (AS) came on land.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) acknowledged the rank of Khalil Ullah.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Yaqoob (AS) met with Hazrat Yusuf (AS) after 40 years.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Idrees (AS) was raised up into the skies.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Ayyub (AS) recovered his health.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Yonas (AS) was free from the stomach of the fish.
• On the Day of Ashura, Tauba of Hazrat Dawood (As) was accepted.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Suleman (AS) acknowledged his Kingdom.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat ESA (AS) was raised up into skies.
• On the Day of Ashura, Ark of Hazrat Noah (AS) came on land.
• On the Day of Ashura, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) made Nikah to Hazrat Khadija
• On this day Qayamat will occur.

The Namaz of Ashura 

Prophet (PBUH) said that,

“The one who performs 4 Rakat’s of prayer on the Day of Ashura in this way that Allah will forgive 50 years of his sins and he will have blessed with a pulpit of Noor, but he reads the entire Surah Ikhlas 11 times after Surah Fatiha in every Rakat.” (Nuzhatul Majalis, Vol.1, Pg.181)

Fasting on Ashura

To keep fast on the Day of Ashura is well-intentioned of countless reward. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to even fast on 10th Muharram and said that, “You too should fast in this day” This is a reason that we should not only fast on 10th but also on the 9th of Muharram and you get the “Historical significance of Ashura”. You should respect the days of Muharram as well.
